Dnyaneshwari is a commentary in Marathi on the Geeta. Eknathi Bhagawat is a commentary on the eleventh canto of Shrimad-Bhagawat. The Tukaram Gatha shines as a pinnacle in the tradition of Abhangas by saints in the Dnyaneshwar line. Bhagavad Geeta is in Sanskrit. Its style is compact. It is saturated with rich thought content. During Dnyaneshwar’s times, common people could not follow the metaphysical discussion in the Geeta, because they had no access to the Sanskrit language. The Geeta, being the essence of the Master Spirit and a book of life, Dnyaneshwar thought it essential to communicate the message of the Geeta to the common man. Hence his Marathi commentary on the Geeta. He vowed to manifest the abstract Supreme Principle into a tangible form.
